Founded more than eighty years ago, the Albany Law Review is an independent, student-run organization committed to making meaningful contributions to the law and legal scholarship. We publish critical and analytical pieces written by judges, lawyers, law school professors, scholars, and law students.
The Albany Law Review publishes four issues per volume.
Lead Articles
Articles of general interest to legal readers are usually published in ALR’s Lead Articles issue. This issue may also include articles from the journal’s annual symposium.
Justice Commentaries
This issue contains articles that integrate legal scholarship with social science and/or policy perspectives, with a focus on problems related to the legal system and society as a whole. It was formerly known as Miscarriages of Justice.
New York Appeals
Papers covering cases decided (or to be decided) by the New York Court of Appeals or the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court may find a home in the Anthony V. Cardona annual issue of New York Appeals.
State Constitutional Commentary
Finally, pieces devoted to state constitutional topics, either comparative or with respect to individual states, may be published in our annual State Constitutional Commentary issue. These articles are sometimes derived from or complement ALR’s annual State Constitutional Commentary symposium.
